THREE: The Wedding Anniversary:

I am not the best person to remember key dates.

Which can at times lead to repercussions fate.

Maybe not alone, maybe other males can relate.

Family and friends said 24th was a critical date.

But what was the number of the marriage state.

From Tibooburra to Goondiwindi to Thursday Island.

Packed to the hilt, instructions to manage airport crowd.

With delays I duly arrived four hours late at Island Wharf.

The Island Event 24th April 2022

Now I know the number was 40yrs

A milestone sneaks up on a man. Forty years ago there was no plan. Beyond choice to wed on land. No number did I have on hand. Just a time to accept a life mate. With open mind on mystery fate. We have seen personal loss and gain. Have lived exultation as well as pain. We have done many highs and lows. Family discussions but none to blows. Our children born have flown the coup. To leave us basically, as the original two. Unplanned fate found us on Island time. On the same date I stated my ‘I DO’ line. Now the spotlight focus shone on us pair. Well wishes showered from everywhere. Congratulations well done to get so far. Tis quite a milestone of the highest bar. Now as we approach our golden years. As a team to face together with no fears. Would be a lie to say I knew exact date. Despite reminders from sons and mates. Came the question with a leading tone. Hey mate have you got the Ruby stone. Mmn, I thought, time for thinking quick. From the deep, I found a memory tick Yes actually, work in progress a ruby ring. Something planned but forgotten thing.

Thank you mates for sharing this time with us. A special event, a shared event, always a plus. As my old man sometimes used to understate. When describing something he thought was great. Oh “She will do” and “They have their uses”
