I am pleased to introduce Mr Daniel Emmery aged 12.
Daniel, named after my son, became my shadow on his early visits to "Merriba"
Please find his first words of prose, a twelve year olds view of an Armidale drought.
Dry Difficulties by Daniel Emmery 8-6-19
Cows dying, sun burning
The cracks in the earth reveal
The desperate need of water
Feel,feel
Feel the sun against your back
Put on your Akubra
Wipe away the sweat
And feel,feel
Feel the isolation
See only the blue sky
Not knowing of the future
Creating a doubt in your mind
Look to the horizon
What do you see?
You see your hard work
Paying off in the field
Generations before you
Toiling through blood sweat and tears
Feeding and weaning
Just trying to make a living
When the rain comes
Kick back and relax
Enjoy
The sound, the smell
Embrace it all
And never forget
