The first trouble with 'Developing the North" concept is the first argument "It is a waste to have all that water flowing into the ocean" This a flawed argument, proven by the Southern Murray Darling concept that water flowing from the Murray mouth at Goolwa into the ocean was a waste. It wasn't until the entire system turned into a putrid set of water holes with no winners, did anyone notice that something was not right. Not the water extractors or the environment came out on top when the system stopped working due the fiddling with the delicate balance that had made it long term sustainable. Drought not the principle cause. The second trouble is despite advances in medicine, IT and a host of others, we are yet to develop an antidote for good old fashioned GREED.
