A ROSE by ANY NAME:

EVERY STORY HAS A BEGINNING

This one begins with the birth of a Rose in Angeles City Pampanga Philippines.

Stretching across language, cultural boundaries and material circumstances

A tale totally transversed and interconnected by love based decisions and family.

Meet Lindsay:

First time Philippine mother with a baby daughter makes a heartbreaking decision to adopt.

Knowing and experienced tough times to be, in a male dominated society.

Life was particularly tough being the first born as well as a being born female.

Decision was made to offer her daughter a far better life than she could possibly do.

On the other side of the world, another mother in Australia is confronted with the reality she is unable to have children of her own.

A full-blooded Italian woman and her English/Irish heritage based husband, both born in Australia, make a decision to adopt to complete their family.

With a wish to make their adoption make a difference to someone, somewhere in real need.

So after research they approach an adoption agency in the Philippines for a suitable match.

Fast forward 17 years, a young dancer is in Sydney following her twin passions for experiencing a rebel attitude for life and dancing, complete with competitions and schools for improvement.

At one such meeting a visiting coach approached Lindsay with what would prove to be life changing.

He said “ I am feeling a strong urge, to suggest to you to search your Philippine family connections”

The advice acted on, saw Lindsay in her birth home town, finding and connecting with her mother and siblings. The language barrier significant as it was, did not prove to be insurmountable.

As family reconnection progressed, so did some other unwelcome development.

Her mother was diagnosed with cancer requiring specialised medical treatment.

With perfect timing, Lindsay was able to assist with availing the best care available that would not otherwise been able to accessed by any other family members, before she died 6 months later.

It was indeed by God’s grace that Lindsay was present to say goodbye.

“From the mouths of the young come the gems of truth”

Lindsay asked of her mother:

· Why didn’t you name me Rose

· Silence… why do you ask ??

· I just like the name.

· More extended silence:

· That was the name your birth mother gave to you.

MULTIPLE CONNECTIONS FROM ABOVE OUR EARTHLY UNDERSTANDING

Then return back to home town Leeton to start her own remedial massage salon.

Met her husband and contributing back into the district that created all her good fortune.

And that my friends is where it became my good fortune from a question

“Anyone know a good remedial to give my ever complaining back and shoulders a workout”

A broad Australian accent subsequently offered a suitable time for an appointment short notice.

Lindsay, I thank you for the privilege of sharing your story of life with me.

Thank you also for your body work to combat the ever-present aging process.

Lindsay/Rose:

An exciting gene pot mixture of:

· Philippine

· Italian

· English

· Irish

· Australian

A delightful ‘True Blue’ Australian combination:

Hamish.

I feel so honoured to have crossed paths with Hamish and make a feature on Ginger Trunk Creations. Reading back on my own story is some what surreal, like I am reading it about someone else, as one never thinks their own story is anything of interest. But this really takes me back. Beautifully composed, I am forever grateful and truly touched.
